Comparing overpowered fictional characters is rarely a thing that can make you happy if you’re writing such a text. Namely, it’s very difficult to compare such characters, especially if they are from a different universe, each with its own laws and rules. In this article, we are going to compare Giorno Giovanna from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Son Goku from Dragon Ball, two extremely powerful characters from completely different universes.

- While it is extremely difficult to compare these two because the worlds of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Dragon Ball are overly different, it still seems more likely that Son Goku would be able to defeat Giorno in a direct fight.
- It wouldn’t be easy, that much is true, but Goku would be able to use his experience and his Saiyan skills to obtain victory in this duel.
Giorno Giovanna and his powers
Giorno Giovanna is the main protagonist of Part 5: Golden Wind. He is the first illegitimate son of DIO (who was conceived from the stolen body of Jonathan Joestar) to appear in the manga and later anime adaptation. He is previously introduced as Haruno Shiobana, a half-Japanese teenager living in Italy. He talks about his intention to join Passione’s gang and his dream of becoming a “Gang-Star” (combination of “Gangster” and “Superstar”).
Giorno is a born Stand user and named his Stand “Gold Experience” and than Gold Experience Requiem after his Stand was pierced by the Requiem arrow. Giorno’s basic Stand doesn’t come with great physical strength but is quick enough to chain hits. In contrast, when evolving into Requiem, its strength and speed are enhanced enough to obliterate Diavolo and his King Crimson, not giving them even time to counterattack, leaving them in a near-death state.
Indeed, Gold Experience can breathe life into any object that comes into contact with his fists. For example, he can use this ability to convert objects into living organisms, like when he transformed Polpo’s lighter into a flower or even Koichi’s suitcase into a frog. Giorno can also cancel this effect at will. This ability is enhanced when Giorno obtains Gold Experience Requiem since he is able to give life from a distance.
In the event that Giorno would use this ability against a human being, the latter will be so infused with life that his consciousness will involuntarily leave his body and will then be unable to react to physical attacks. The pain will then be felt more intensely for a longer period, as in the fight against Bucciarati. Giorno can also determine if an organism is alive with the touch of a hand or track down organisms he has created.
Thanks to Gold Experience Requiem, Giorno is able to nullify any will or attack of his opponent, nullifying any attempted action, as if reset in a “zero” stage; this technique is considered the ultimate defense, making Giorno literally invulnerable. The only stands that would have overridden it are Made In Heaven (although not sure) and The World, Over Heaven (non-canonical).
Due to the dissociation of the Stand and its wielder, the limits of this ability are not determined by the will of Giorno Giovanna, who does not know the nature of this ability, at least at the end of Vento Oreo. A physical contact attack from Requiem is able to trap its victim in a perpetual death loop, resulting in nullifying the victim’s death infinitely, so they will be killed again and again in all the ways imaginable.
The impression that emerges from this is that Requiem would have created an alternate reality from scratch to trap its victim. Unlike the previous technique, Giorno is aware of the nature of this power. However, it is not understood that several people can be trapped in the loop at the same time or that it is possible to free someone from it.
Son Goku and his powers
Son Goku is the main protagonist of the manga Dragon Ball, and their animated adaptations, Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z / Dragon Ball Kai, then Dragon Ball Super, as well as the alternative animated sequel to the first two series, Dragon Ball GT. An orphan exiled from the defunct planet Vegeta, he lands on Earth where he grows up with his adoptive grandfather. His adventure begins the day he meets Bulma, a young adventurer, who invites him to look for the Dragon Balls.
He is an expert in martial arts, having been taught the style of the Turtle School; he is known to be close to a prodigy, managing to learn techniques and levels of strength that other individuals would take time to learn. He even knew how to use skills such as reading minds without even knowing how to do it. Goku has been shown to use different parts of his body to help him in combat, such as shooting a Kamehameha with his feet and using his eyes to launch a ki laser beam in the Frieza Saga, among other examples.
Son Goku is a born martial arts expert and fan, managing to read his opponents’ movements and get used to his attacks and speed. Usually, in combat, Goku reserves large amounts of strength and restrains himself to the point of apparently lowering his ki level to absurdly low points in order to conserve energy. However, he also demonstrated the ability to unleash his full power just in the nick of time, when he launched a physical attack.
As a Saiyan, Goku is able to use the Saiyan Power, which allows him to surpass his strength whenever he takes large amounts of damage or fatal wounds. Goku, being an alien, also has enhanced senses of smell, taste, and sight, which further enhances his combat senses. Goku’s body is much more durable than normal human beings, being essentially invulnerable to all Earth-made weapons.
However, while he is naturally durable thanks to his Saiyan physiology, he has limits, as other powerful beings like himself can hurt and potentially kill him if he doesn’t defend himself properly. Also, compared to most humans, including those trained in the ki arts, Son Goku possesses a great deal of strength, speed, and stamina.
For example, when he was a young child, he could lift a car over his head and throw it with ease, and during his training with Kame-Sennin, Goku could push massive rock formations that would at least weigh over 100 tons. At the height of his strength, he displayed the ability to destroy mountains and islands and even heavily damage entire planets with physical force alone.
For speed, he displayed supersonic speeds even faster than light when he reached the Saiyan Saga. By the time he became a Super Saiyan God, his speed had reached more massive than the speed of light. His physical strength was enough for one of the shockwaves from his punches to be felt throughout the universe, damaging incalculably and destroying many planets and stars; up to this point, there had been just four hits between Beerus. Goku is enough to completely destroy the universe.
Goku usually uses techniques based on ki, using them in a fight as support, defense, and attack such as the Kamehameha, these are performed through the control and mastery of ki, born from the creativity and skill of the character. Son Goku is one of the strongest characters in the series, rivaling Vegeta for the position of the most powerful Z Warrior and Universe 7 warrior.
Giorno Giovanna vs. Son Goku: Who would win?
And now for the most important and interesting section of our article – the analysis. Here, we are going to use what we have found out about these two characters and analyze how all these facts would (or would not) help them in a fight against each other. Let us continue.
Giorno Giovanna is a powerful addition to the world of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, but despite being a powerful asset in his own universe, when compared to Goku – he couldn’t really do much. The thing with Goku is that he has fought opponents with powers similar to Giorno’s, and he has either survived those battles or has even defeated them. On the other hand, Giorno’s actual fighting experience is limited, at best.
Goku would definitely find a way to fight and win against Giorno. The Stands from JoJo’s should have limited effects in worlds and settings outside of their own, which means that Goku wouldn’t really be affected by them. On the other hand, Goku’s punches and techniques do work according to certain natural laws (albeit fantastic, but nevertheless), and there is no doubt that they could do more damage to Giorno than Giorno could to Goku.
