Blackpink’s Jisoo helps Jung Hae-in escape danger in Snowdrop
by tineybeanie
In JTBC’s upcoming drama Snowdrop, Jung Hae-in (D.P.) stars as Im Su-ho, a second generation Korean-German grad student with a heavy backstory. The recently released poster shows him through cracked glass, looking downward. The caption reads: “Im Su-ho. A man who aims his fate toward that woman.”
Snowdrop is set against the political backdrop of Seoul in 1987 and opens with a blood-covered university student (Im Su-ho) barging into a female dormitory. One courageous woman hides him and treats his injuries, despite the danger. This woman is a cheerful freshman English major named Eun Young-ro, played by Jisoo (from Blackpink). She’s dragged to a co-ed drinking party by her roommate and falls in love with Im Su-ho at first sight.
Jisoo and Jung Hae-in are joined by actors Yoo Inna (The Spies Who Loved Me), Yoon Se-ah (Forest of Secrets 2), Jang Seung-jo (The Good Detective), Kim Hye-yoon (Extraordinary You), and Jung Yoo-jin (Catch the Ghost).
In an interview, Jung Hae-in revealed that he settled on this project because of the director’s strong faith in the quality of the project, and his trust that Jung Hae-in would fully capture the character of Im Su-ho. Regarding his character, Jung Hae-in said, “I think he has strong leadership skills. He takes care of his friends and family. He is also firm in his personal convictions.”
Jung Hae-in says he took special care to express the distress that Im Su-ho feels when his entire belief system is wrecked, and he has to deal with a situation that puts him at odds with his beloved. Regarding other preparation he did for the role, Jung Hae-in said he needed to bulk up for this character more than his previous roles, and also that he learned to become familiar with handling a gun.
Written by Yoo Hyun-mi (SKY Castle) and directed by Jo Hyun-tak (SKY Castle), Saturday-Sunday drama Snowdrop will air on JTBC starting December 18.

I feel a bit peeved that so many hard working (and amazing) Korean actresses toil away long hours padding up their acting resume, when Jisoo was basically handed in hers. In a major drama production. I'm not judging her, just expressing how I feel.

I don't follow Jisoo so don't know her acting credentials, but this seems like throwing her into the deep end.

She's blessed with a co-star who is not only a skilled actor but from what I can tell also a very generous one. So hopefully she'll have a base level of talent that's sufficient to take advantage of that fact.
I have zero interest in kpop as a genre and have never knowingly heard a blackpink song, so I don't have any kind of feeling about her casting or idol casting in general. But I do really want this to be a good drama so I hope Jisoo does well regardless of whether or not she deserved the opportunity to begin with.

Someone mentioned that she went through couple of audition rounds for this role, and so I do too hope she's a next Yoon Eun Hye. But I always considered Yoon Eun Hye a spectacular exception to the rule, so...the probabilities math is not in anyone's favor (at least in my mind).
My comment though was not even about Jisoo. I watch these supporting female actresses or amazing second leads, who caught my eye due to their acting / interesting looks / ability to give an actual character to a character, and I hardly even know their names, and the projects like this won't even consider them, let's face it (at least, I didn't hear any other names floating around being considered for a lead in Snowdrop.) Feels unfair to me.

I’m going to hope she really impressed the director and is an acting natural, and just happens to be an idol. Because otherwise, putting her in a politically delicate, major historical drama is mean.
And if the role is actually just a paper doll role, where she’s meant to look pretty and be The Girl, then I’ll be less mad at the director but MORE mad at the writer.
All in all: 😬

At this point I'm sure Jisoo will follow similar footsteps to Suzy but then again every idol wants to be the next Suzy. Jisoo is the bigger star globally and YG has strong connections within the industry more than JYP. Would not be surprised to see her opposite Gong Yoo in the future in an even bigger production. For this role she was hand picked by the writer and director after several rounds of audition apparently. I'm not sure if that is entirely true or she was always the person they had in mind for the role.

As always, I'm cautious whenever an idol takes a step into dramaland.
I love Jung Haein and I like the costars. I don't want to jump into conclusions regarding female lead, but I'm disappointed that an inexperienced someone was handed this size of a project.
The production team doesn't seem confident with the strong line up. But then stranger things have happened in dramaland.
So for the sake for everyone involved, I hope she's at least as half good as Yoon Eunhye in Goong. But honestly, I won't hold my breath.

Jisoo looks a bit like son ye Jin in this photo!!
Fingers crossed she is a natural when it comes to acting chops, otherwise will curse the writer director for putting jung hae in level talent though this!

I thought so too, but more than a bit. I do not follow Kpop, and I have no opinion on Jisoo's acting chops but that is remarkably beautiful photo of an obviously beautiful young woman.

This drama is ticking bomb between the tricky theme and the rookie idol being the main actress between really good actors...

I really want this drama to be good and I really want Jisoo to do well. I'm keeping my expectations low, but I have to at least admire her for being brave enough to choose a show like this, knowing all eyes will be on her.
I also want to mention that I think a lot of the time people forget how many talented actors, like a lot of the current crop in their 30s-40s, started off as idols. I'm pretty sure there are also idols who want to be actors, join an agency, and get pushed into debuting as idols first because it's easier to make the jump. No idea if Jisoo falls into this category, but people need to chill with their knee jerk responses to idol casting. Of course, once we've actually seen what she can do, if she's still terrible - bash away lol.

I think none of us lament "idol casting" or even judging the lady, her acting or anything, or ball-reading. A lot of beanies have even expressed a sympathy toward her for enduing this level of project on her (very) "inexperienced" shoulders and who might have potentially put her into this quite tricky position.
My comment above is more of a "societal unfairness" nature than anything regarding Jisoo. It's just simply quite unfair for many, many absolutely stunning actresses (including those who are perpetually stuck in supporting roles / second leads) denied this level of project, and that is what I'm upset about.
